PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team opens Hockey East play this weekend with home-and-home matchups versus the Holy Cross Crusaders. On Friday, Oct. 14 the Friars will host Holy Cross for a 6:00 p.m. puck drop before traveling to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a 7:30 p.m. start.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 3-1-0 overall and 0-0-0 in Hockey East. Last weekend, the Friars had a shutout weekend with wins over Union College and RPI. On Friday, Oct. 7 the Friars took a 7-0 win over Union. On Saturday, Oct. 8 the Friars defeated RPI 2-0.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) finished the weekend with 35 saves and currently holds a .938 save percentage this season.
Lindsay Bochna (Toronto, Ontario) earned her first points of the season with a natural hat trick against Union. Freshman
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) finished the weekend with three goals and is the leading scorer for the Friars with four goals.
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) recorded her first goal of the season against Union, as well as
KC Brooks (Colorado Springs, Colo.) against RPI.
USCHO Division I Women's Poll: October 10

As of Oct. 10, the Friars are slotting in at No.15 in the USCHO NCAA Women's Hockey rankings. Providence received 27 votes.
Hockey East Award Winners
Abstreiter was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week as announced on Oct.10. Abstreiter was recognized for her efforts between the pipes after a shutout weekend over Union college and RPI, posting a combined 35 saves.
Kirchmair was named Hockey East Pro-Ambitions Rookie of the Week as announced on Sept. 26. Kirchmair was recognized for scoring the game-winner with her first career goal against St. Lawrence.
Hockey East Preseason Poll
The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Providence received 61 points and was picked to finish behind Northeastern (90), Vermont (79) and Boston College (76). The Huskies, who won the 2022 Hockey East Tournament, received nine first place votes.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes seven new players (three transfers and four freshmen) to the roster for the 2022-23 season.
Noemi Neubauerova (Prague, Czech Republic) is a graduate student from Colgate University.
Ida Press (Uppsala, Sweden) is a graduate student from University of Maine.
Rachel Weiss (Calgary, Canada) is a junior from Penn State. The four freshmen are Mégane Quirion (Saint-Eustahce, Quebec),
Kayla Kutes (Kirkland, Wa.),
Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) and
Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario).

Scouting the Crusaders
Holy Cross currently holds a 2-2-0 overall record with a 1-1-0 Hockey East conference record. The Crusaders are coming off a weekend split versus Vermont by winning 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 8 and losing 3-0 on Sunday, Oct. 9. As a team, Holy Cross averages 27.5 shots per game and holds a .092 conversion rate on power plays with a 44.5 faceoff success percentage.
Who to Watch
Alexis Moreau, Mary Edmonds, Darci Johal, and Bryn Saarela are all tied in point production with three each. Moreau holds the lead in goals with three and Saarela leads in assists with three across the Crusaders' four games.
Junior Madison Beck has started between the pipes for three games. Beck has a .936 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA. Freshman Brooke Loranger has started in one game and holds a .939 save percentage and a 2.02 GAA.
