PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College's
Riley Duran (Woburn, Mass.) was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday (Jan. 31). Duran also earned Hockey East Co-Rookie of the Week accolades on Dec. 13.
Duran scored twice in the third period of Providence's 2-1 win at No. 9/8 UMass on Friday night. The freshman's game-winning goal came with 3:42 left in regulation, just nine seconds after UMass had tied the game. He finished the weekend with two goals and seven shots on goal.
The rookie forward has totaled eight goals and nine assists for 17 points this season with a +7 rating. Sixteen of his 17 points and all eight goals have come at even strength this season.
Duran and the Friars finish off their three-game road trip on Friday night (Feb. 4) at UConn. Providence will also host Vermont at Schneider Arena on Saturday night (Feb. 5).
