PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence men's and women's cross country teams will open the season on Friday, September 10 at the Friar Invitational on the Mark Coogan Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. The women's race will start at 3 p.m. In addition to the Friars, the women's race also will feature the University of New Hampshire and Stony Brook. On the men's side, the race will start at 3:45 p.m. The Friars will face Boston College, New Hampshire and Stony Brook.

Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) will be one of the top returners for the Friars this season. Coffin finished fourth at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship on March 5, 2021 in a time of 20:44.2. She also competed for the Friars at the NCAA Cross Country Championship on March 15, 2021, finishing the course in a time of 21.29.5. Junior Lily Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) had a strong sophomore season for the Friars as she earned All-BIG EAST accolades after finishing eighth (20:54.0) at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) was the third Friar finisher at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship in March, placing 10
thin a time of 20:57.2. O'Connor earned All-BIG EAST honors. Also expected to pace the Friars will be sophomores
Laura Mooney (Cappincur, Ireland) and
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England). Flockhart and Mooney both scored for the Friars at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship in March, placing 17

ndrespectively, and helping the team to a third-place finish.
Graduate student Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) returns after posting an eighth-place (23:33.4) finish at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championship in March. The All-BIG EAST Cross Country performer also had a strong spring, finishing 18
thin the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championship after posting the third fastest time (28:37.05) ever at Providence. Graduate students Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) and David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) also scored for the Friars in March at the BIG EAST Championship. Gallagher was the second finisher for the Friars, placing 21
st(23:50.4). Rosas was 32
ndoverall in a time of 24:19.4. Another one of the Friars' top returners will be sophomore Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand). Back placed 29
that the BIG EAST Championship in March in a time of 24:11.5. Graduate student David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland) is a newcomer who could impact the Friars this season.
After the Friar Invitational, the men's and women's teams will return to action on Friday, September 24 at the Battle of Beantown at Franklin Park at 3 p.m.
