ORONO, MAINE – The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 19 Harvard, 3-0, on Sept. 5 in Orono, Maine.
1ST QUARTER:
• The game was scoreless after the opening 15 minutes of play.
• Harvard outshot Providence, 5-0, and held a 4-0 edge in penalty corners.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars logged their first shot attempt of the game 1:29 into the second frame, but
Sophia Pompeo's (Portland, Maine) bid at a goal was saved by the Crimson goalkeeper.
• Harvard took a 1-0 lead at 23:32 as Emily Berlinghof redirected a ball into the back of the cage at the right post. She was assisted by Emily Gukian.
• Olivia Hoover gave Harvard a 2-0 lead as she knocked home a rebound, unassisted, at the left post.
• The Crimson took their two-goal advantage into halftime.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence earned their first corner of the game less than a minute into the third, but
Marlies Kool's shot attempt was wide.
• Avery Donahue increased the Crimson lead to three (3-0) after an initial shot was blocked by a Providence defender and the official held the advantage for Harvard to play on. Donahue collected the ball at the left post and sent it into the cage.
• Providence goalkeeper
Asia Porter (Somerset, Mass.) was tested throughout the quarter, making seven saves. Through 45 minutes of play, Porter recorded 12 saves.
4TH QUARTER:
• Harvard outshot Providence, 7-1, in the final quarter.
• The Crimson maintained their 3-0 lead through the final whistle.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
• Porter finished the game with a season-high 16 saves.
• Sofia Castore recorded three saves for the Crimson to earn the shutout.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will return home to Lennon Family Field to host a pair of non-conference opponents next weekend. On Friday, Sept. 10, the Friars will welcome New Hampshire for a 6:00 p.m. start. On Sunday, Sept. 12, Providence will take on LIU-Brooklyn at Noon. Both games will be broadcast live on FloSports.
