Nora Goddard-Despot and Amanda Collins each scored for the Friars.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team held off a late fourth-quarter rally by New Hampshire to earn a 2-1 victory in non-conference action on Friday, Sept. 10 in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 3-2 overall and 3-0 at home on Lennon Family Field. The Wildcats dropped to 1-4.

1ST QUARTER:
• The first 15 minutes was played almost exclusively in the midfield.
• Neither team was able to register a shot attempt or a penalty corner.

2ND QUARTER:
• New Hampshire was awarded the game's first penalty corner of the match at the 18:23 mark. The stopper mishandled the insert, leaving a broken play, but Bloem van den Brekel picked up the ball at the right of the circle and fire a shot wide-right of the cage.
• At 19:31, the Friars responded with their first corner attempt. That insert also was bobbled, but played back into the circle and eventually one-timed into the cage by Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) for her first goal of the season.
Marley Mailloux (Hampstead, N.H.) was credit with an assist as she sent perfect feed to Goddard-Despot on her first touch.

3RD QUARTER:
• Providence outshot New Hampshire 4-1 in the third quarter and extended its lead to 2-0.
• Senior Amanda Collins (San Diego, Calif.) scored her first goal of the season as she took a feed from Lisa McNamara (Barre, Vt.). Collins fired a hard shot from the middle of the circle to the lower right of the cage.

4TH QUARTER:
• New Hampshire came alive in the late stages of the fourth quarter and held a 6-1 advantage in shots during the frame overall.
• The Wildcats cut the deficit to one (2-1) as Jaiden Wittel fired home a shot off a pass from Ava Mariani. Mariani picked up a loose ball after an initial shot by the Wildcats, and she redirected it to Wittel.
• Providence held off the Wildcats' late rally to earn the 2-1 victory.

NOTES:
• Sophomore Asia Porter (Somerset, Mass.) recorded five saves in the victory, and all five came during the fourth quarter.
• Providence sophomore Roos Michiels (Noord-Brabrant, The Netherlands) also turned away a sure goal for the Wildcats with her first career defensive save.
• New Hampshire held a 9-7 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in penalty corners at the end of regulation.
