Providence Falls In Overtime In BIG EAST Opener... The Friars fell to No. 21 Xavier, 1-0, in overtime in their BIG EAST opener on Sept. 23. After 90 minutes of play, the score was tied at 0-0. In the 96
th minute, the Musketeers scored the golden goal.
Bodmer Named BIG EAST Goalkeeper Of The Week... Sophomore
Emma Bodmer (Monroe Township, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, Sept. 20. Bodmer was tested against Brown, making eight saves for the Friars. After allowing a goal in the 17
th minute, Bodmer held steady for the final 73 minutes as Providence scored two second-half goals to defeat the Bears. Bodmer had four saves in each half. No other winning BIG EAST Goalkeeper had more than three saves last week.
Hughes Leads The Friars... Sophomore
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) leads the Friars this season with 14 points on six goals and two assists. Hughes ranks in the top-10 in four different statistical categories in BIG EAST. Hughes ranks fifth in total points (14) and is tied for fourth in points per game (1.56). She also ranks fifth in goals and fourth in shots per game (3.22).
Series History Against Creighton... The Friars hold a 4-3-0 overall record against the Bluejays, winning two out of the last three games. In their last meeting on October 19, 2019 Providence beat Creighton 2-1 in Omaha, Neb.
Scouting The Bluejays... Creighton concluded non-conference play with an overall record of 6-2-1. On Thursday, Sept. 23 the Bluejays tied No. 25 Georgetown in their BIG EAST opener. Creighton's defense has only allowed five goals in 10 matches. Creighton's goalkeeper Keelan Terrell leads the NCAA this season with six shutouts. The Bluejays offense is led by Abigail Santana who has a team best of six goals. Creighton was picked to finish fifth in the 2021 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll.
Friars Picked Fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll… The BIG EAST Conference announced its Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday, August 12. The Friars were picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST behind Georgetown, Butler and UConn.
Hughes was the lone Friar to receive preseason recognition as a member of the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Last season, Hughes played in all 12 games for the Friars and appeared in the starting lineup four times. She led Providence in points (14), assists (six) and was tied for first on the team in goals (four). At the conclusion of the season, she was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
Up Next… The Friars will travel to Washington, D.C. to face the Georgetown Hoyas on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 2:30 p.m. This game will be nationally televised on FS1.
