PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 24 Providence College men's soccer team defeated Xavier University, 3-2, on Saturday September 25 in its BIG EAST home opener on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.), Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.), and Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash.) scored for the Friars, helping extend the Friars' win streak to four games.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
Karsen Henderlong (Crowd Point, Ind.) opened the scoring in the match with a diving header off a rebound to give the Musketeers a 1-0 lead.
Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) tied the game for the Friars with a shot to the top right corner. He was assisted by Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) and Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal).
The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the first half, the Friars led in shots with 4 compared to Xavier's 2.
In the second half, it was Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) who opened the scoring with a header in the center of the box, he was assisted by Gage Raftery (Seattle, Wash.).
Gage Raftery scored a goal for the Friars off a backwards pass from Davis Smith. He was assisted by Smith and Thomas Tulgar (Bergenfield, N.J.).
Late in the second half, Xavier was able to draw a foul in the box and were awarded a penalty kick… the Musketeers converted the penalty and made it a one goal game with just under nine minutes to play.
The Friars outshot the Musketeers 15-6.
