No. 22 Men’s Soccer Travels To Marquette For BIG EAST Match

Kick-off is set for Saturday, October 2 at 8:00 PM in Milwaukee, Wisc.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 22 Providence College men's soccer team (6-1-1, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) will travel to Milwaukee, Wisc. to face the Marquette University Golden Eagles (4-4-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday, October 2 at 8:00PM. The Friars enter the match having won four straight matches against Loyola University Maryland, 3-1(Sept. 10), No. 19 Seton Hall (Sept. 18), 3-2, a 3-0 win against Brown (Sept. 22), and a 3-2 victory in the BIG EAST home opener against Xavier University (Sept. 25).

Scouting the Golden Eagles… The Golden Eagles are coming off their first BIG EAST win of the season against Seton Hall (Sept. 24). Marquette is led in scoring by freshman midfielder Edrey Caceras (Houston, Texas) with three goals and two assists. Caceras is coming off a two-goal performance against Seton Hall. The Golden Eagles average 9.8 shots per game and allow 12.5 shots per game through the season. They have maintained a goal differential of zero through the first eight games of the season scoring 11 goals and allowing 11.

 
Scouting the Friars… The Friars are coming off their BIG EAST home opening win against Xavier on Sept. 25 where the Friars notched a 3-2 victory. Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) leads the Friars in points this season with six goals and one assist. McSorley has scored goals in the last four games helping contribute to the Friars win streak. Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) also contributes to the Friars' prolific offense with four goals and four assists on the season and was recognized twice for BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Aug. 30, Sept. 20). The Friars have outscored their opponents 23-10 this season and average 14 shots and just under three goals per game. The Friars have climbed national rankings in the last two weeks and look to do so for a third time by extending their win streak to five games this Saturday.

Friars against ranked opponents…  The Friars have played three of their eight games in the 2021 season against ranked opponents and hold a 2-1-0 record. On Aug. 26th, they hosted No. 23 Fordham and posted a 3-0 victory. On Sept. 3rd the Friars travelled to No. 14 New Hampshire, where they lost 2-1. On Sept. 18, the Friars opened conference play with a win at No. 19 Seton Hall, 3-2.
 
Friars undefeated in BIG EAST… The Friars opened up BIG EAST play against No. 19 Seton Hall on Sept. 18 where the Friars came back from two one goal deficits to win 3-2 with two goals in the last 10 minutes from Brendan McSorley and Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal). In the Friars' BIG EAST home opener against Xavier on Sept. 25, the Friars came back from 1-0 to win 3-2 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
 
Friars' Newcomers
 
The Friars' roster includes nine incoming freshman and two transfers for the 2021 fall season. Cole Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.), Thomas Tulgar (Bergenfield, N.J.), Colton Madeira (Taunton, Mass.), Austin Rome (Bowie, Md.), Alec Lowe (Rutheford, N.J.), Nathan Lagoa (Rehoboth, Mass.), Noah Smith (Matthews, N.C.), Diego Garcia (Wilmington, Mass), and Colby Campos (Swansea, Mass.) make up the incoming freshmen. The Friars' also welcome Simon Triantafillou (Ontario, Canada), a transfer from Syracuse University, and Miguel Candela (Caceres, Spain), a transfer from Franklin Pierce University.
