PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's soccer team defeated No. 23 Fordham, 3-0, on August 26, 2021 at Chapey Field. Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) had two goals in the match, his first of the season and third in his career. Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) also scored for the Friars. This marks the first time the Friars have defeated a ranked opponent since 2019 in a win over St. John's. The Friars outshot the Rams 21-7.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
Neither team was able to score in a closely played first half with the Friars holding a 9-3 advantage in shots.
The Friars' goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made a diving save late in the first half to keep the match tied.
The Friars maintained 65% of the possession in the first 45 minutes of play.
Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) put a shot on target early in the first half that was saved by Fordham's Callum James (Swansea, Wales).
The Friars opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal from Luis Garcia, assisted by Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.).
At the 84:14 mark, Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) took advantage of a poor pass by the defense across the middle, finishing from the top of the box.
