PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Saint Peter's University, 6-2, on August 29, 2021 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass) and Thomas Tulgar (Bergenfield, N.J.) each had a goal and an assist. Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J) and Miguel Candela (Caceres, Spain) also scored for the Friars. This marks the first time the Friars have scored six goals in a match since 2011, where they notched six tallies against Seton Hall.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-It was Saint Peter's who opened the game with the first score off a corner at the 9:15 mark in the first half on a goal from Tom Climpson.
-Miguel Candela (Caceres, Spain) responded for the Friars with just over 12 minutes left in the first half, sliding a shot across the box past the keeper. Candela's goal was assisted by Gevork Diarbian (Cranston, R.I.) and Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.).
-A few minutes later, at the 36:13 mark, Thomas Tulgar (Bergenfield, N.J.) took advantage of a mishandled ball by Saint Peter's defense and capitalized beating the goalie far post.
-With just over a minute left in the first half, sophomore Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) scored the third straight for the Friars on assists by Thomas Tulgar and Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.).
- The Friars outshot the Peacocks 11-2 in the first half and maintained 64% of the possession.
- Davis Smith opened the scoring in the second half for the Friars, retrieving a loose ball off of a cross and beating the keeper near post at the 46:34 mark. Assisted by Gevork Diarbian.
- Saint Peter's narrowed the gap in the 83rd minute following a header off of a set piece by Kevin Van Der Pol, assisted by Jamie Davis.
- Samuel Biven scored an unassisted goal outside the box five minutes later, giving the Friars a 5-2 lead.
- Kevin Vang in the 89th minute buried a penalty kick to seal the win for the Friars.
- The Friars out shot Saint Peter's 22-5 and held possession for 72% of the match.
