SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.- The Providence College volleyball team fell in its BIG EAST opener to Seton Hall, 3-2. The Friars and Pirates were back and forth, with Providence taking the first set before the Pirates rallied to take the next two. Providence claimed the fourth, but fell short in the final set, 25-15, 15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 10-15. Providence drops to 2-1, 0-1 in the BIG EAST while Seton Hall improves to 3-1, 1-0 in the BIG EAST.

FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS- The Friars maintained a steady lead through the first set, building a lead to as many as ten, finishing the set at 25-15.

Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) and
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa) each had a set-high 16 kills on 37 and 35 total attacks, respectively. Leitman added a team-high 12 digs on the set.

Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded 10 assists, a set-high.
Â
Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas) tallied five block assists.
Â
Providence held Seton Hall to a .087 hitting percentage.

SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS-Â Seton Hall broke out of a 5-5 tie to maintain the lead throughout the second set, ending the set 25-15.

Nelson led the Friars with five kills on 11 total attacks.

Barber registered a seven assists to go with one dig.

THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS-Â After a back and forth set, the Pirates went on a 5-1 run to create some separation (20-16). Seton Hall would keep the lead and take the set, 25-20.

Nelson registered six kills on 11 total attacks.

Barber tallied 10 assists.

Barber and Leitman both tallied three digs.

FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS-Â Seton Hall jumped out to a 8-3 lead to begin the set. The Friars fought back with a 10-4 run and claimed the set, 25-21.

Leitman led the Friars with seven kills on 11 total attacks.

Barber recorded a set-highs 13 assists with two digs.

Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a set-high seven digs.

FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS-Â The Friars took the lead early in the set, 4-0. Seton Hall would battle back to take the next four points and finished the match on a 7-3 run to win the set, 15-10.

Rudich recorded three kills on four total attacks.

Benson registered three digs.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Leitman secured her third double-double on the season with 16 kills and 12 digs.

Barber notched her eighth straight double-double, giving her 12 on the season. She finished with 34 assists and 15 digs.

Benson was the third Friar with double-digit digs (13).

As a team, the Friars recorded 57 kills on 138 total attacks, 49 digs, 53 assists and nine total team blocks.
