Avery Snead scored the game-winning header goal in the 72nd minute off a feed from Amber Birchwell.

 – The Providence College women's soccer team defeated BIG EAST foe Connecticut, 2-1, on Thursday, March 4 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute. She found the back of the net on a header off an Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) feed inside the box. The Friars improved to 3-0-0 overall (1-0-0 BIG EAST) and the Huskies dropped to 2-1-0 overall (0-1-0 BIG EAST).

GAME FLOW & NOTES

- The first half was very physical and fast-paced on both ends.

-  Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) had a great look on the right side of the box 15 minutes in, but it was saved by a UConn defender.

- In the second half, the Friars made adjustments, which resulted in more ball possession.

- Providence got a few good scoring opportunities in the second half but were unable to finish them, outside of Avery Snead's (Wrentham, Mass.) goal.

- Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) has registered at least one point in her first three games in a Friar uniform.

SCORING SUMMARY

1-0 – (UConn) – 31:40/1st – Sophie Danyko-Kulchycky scored on a free kick just to the left of the 18' on a free kick. The kick went to the bottom left of the net.

1-1 – (Providence) – 42:50/1st – Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.) sent a ball in the box to Hughes who volleyed the ball to Esther Ronn (Copenhagen, Denmark) in the middle of box. Ronn one-timed the pass from Hughes and scored at the bottom left of the net.

2-1 – (Providence) – 71:59/2nd – Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) scored from a header to the lower left of the net from an Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) cross deep into the box.
