QUEENS, N.Y.- The Providence College volleyball team lost in straight sets to St. John's, 25-10, 25-15, 25-17. The Red Storm improve to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the BIG EAST. The Friars dropped to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in BIG EAST play.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: St. John's held the lead from start to finish, winning the set, 25-10.
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) led the Friars with two kills.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded all five total assists for Providence.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) registered a team-high five digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars fought to stay close with the Red Storm in the beginning of the set, tying things up at 13-13. St. John's then went on a 8-1 run to separate themselves from Providence (21-14), to the second set 25-15.
Nelson added a team-high three kills in the second set.
Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) registered two kills.
Barber assisted on all seven of the team's kills.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Friars and Red Storm went back and forth in the first half of the set. The score was tied, 10-10, before St. John's created distance between the teams and took the set 25-17.
Addison Witte (Troy, Mo.) registered a team-high three kills.
Barber tallied three assists and
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) tallied two more.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Nelson paced the Friars' attack with six kills on 21 total attacks along with one dig.
Barber recorded 16 assists.
Taylor led the Friar defense with 14 digs.
As a team, the Friars recorded 21 kills on 93 total attacks, 29 digs, 20 assists and ten total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Friars return home for their final regular-season home matches against Villanova on Friday, March 26 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. During Saturday's game, two Friars will be honored for senior day.
