QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to play St. Johns in a pair of BIG EAST regular-season matches on March 19 and March 20 in Queens, N.Y. Both matches are scheduled for 3:00pm.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
- Providence college enters the weekend at 5-1 overall record and a 3-1 in the BIG EAST.
- Providence hosted UConn on March 12-13 to continue BIG EAST play. The Friars swept the Huskies in a weekend series, defeating them in both matches, 3-1.
- Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) has hit .249 so far this season and holds a team-best 3.50 kills per set. She has a team-high 84 kills overall. Nelson picked up her first BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nomination last week (March 16).
- Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) averages 3.17 kills per set this season. She has 76 kills on 226 total attacks, with 36 attacking errors (.177).
- Other leaders for Friar's offense include Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.), Elena Leontaridou (Thessaloniki, Greece), and Sasha Rudich (Austin, Texas). Fink is hitting .309 while Leontaridou and Rudich hit .247 and .228, respectively. Combined, Fink, Leontaridou and Rudich account for 112 of the team's 313 kills.
- Leading the team in digs thus far this season are Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) and Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) with 77 and 65, respectively. Barber averages 3.21 digs per set while Taylor comes in at 2.71.
- Senior setter Barber has recorded 232 assists on the season (9.67 per set), and tallies 14 blocks. She has recorded one solo block and has assisted on 13 others. Additionally, Barber leads the Friars in service aces (7). The senior setter has recently earned two consecutive nominations to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor (March 9 and March 16).
SCOUTING ST JOHNS:
- St. Johns enters this weekend 7-3 overall, with a 3-2 mark in the BIG EAST.
- In St. John's five BIG EAST conference games, the team has split conference matches with UConn (1-3, 3-1), were downed by the Villanova Wildcats, (1-3) and most recently swept Seton Hall on the road (3-0, 3-1).
- Leading the Red Storm's offensive attack is Efrosini Alexakou, averaging 4.41 kills per set. She has recorded a team-high 366 total attacks. Rachele Rastelli follows up closely with 4.32 kills per set, tallying 354 total attempts.
- Tiziana Baumrukova serves as St. John's primary setter and has recorded 448 assists on the season (11.79 aps).
- Iliana Rodriguez and Efrosini Alexakou lead the Red Storm in digs with 142 and 97, respectively. Combined, they account for 239 of the team's 561 digs.

• After the St. John's conference matchup, the Friars will face Villanova University at home for a weekend series on March 26 and March 27.
