Volleyball Set To Host University Of Rhode Island

The Friars will play the Rams on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the University of Rhode Island Rams on Monday, Feb. 22 at 7:00p.m in Alumni Hall.
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars have kicked off the season with a 1-0 record, having played Bryant University last Sunday, Feb 14.
 
Sophomore Emma Nelson (West Chest, Pa.), who earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll honors as announced as Feb. 16, led the Friars with 18 kills, hitting .263 and adding four blocks to the team's victory over Bryant.
 
Sophomore Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) also contributed to the Friars' attack, having finished second on the team in kills with 13. 
 
Contributing to the Friars' defense are Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.), Leitman and Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Center, N.Y.) each recording 16, 10, and 9 digs, respectively. Sophomore Elena Leontaridou (Thessaloniki, Greece) was a strong force on the front line, totaling 10 blocks to lead the Friars.
 
Barber played the role of setter, currently leading the Friars in assists (38). She recorded one service ace and 3 kills to help the Friars' offense against Bryant.
 

SCOUTING THE RAMS: The University of Rhode Island Rams have an overall record of 1-3 this season. They last played a pair of matches against Northeastern University on Feb. 19-20. The Rams were defeated by Northeastern in both matches.
 
Senior Clair Chaplinsky and Junior Mariah Paulette have been the two offensive threats for the Rams. Chaplinsky leads the team with 58 kills, while Paulette is second with 34. Annie Ell has been the setter for URI as she has 139 assists (8.69 a/s), thus far, this season.   

WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will return to action at home to open up their first BIG EAST match of the season on Friday, Mar. 5 against Seton Hall at 5:00 p.m. in South Orange, NJ.
