QUEENS, N.Y. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to St. John's 65-47 on Feb. 21 in Queens, N.Y. Junior forward
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) led the Friars with 13 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. The Friars fell to 6-11 overall on the season (4-8 BIG EAST), while the Red Storm improved to 7-12 (4-10 BIG EAST).
FIRST QUARTER:
• Providence started the game with a 6-0 spurt before St. John's rattled in a three-pointer at the 6:47 mark (6-3).
• The Friars took a 12-7 lead into the media timeout at 3:27, but the Red Storm evened the game, 12-12, on back-to-back buckets by Emma Nolan.
• Nolan gave the Red Storm a 13-12 lead after hitting one of two free throws. St. John's maintained the one-point margin at the break.
SECOND QUARTER:
•
Sophia Widmeyer (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) knocked down a three with 8:45 on the clock to tie the game up at 15-15.
• Back-to-back buckets by Geary at 8:07 and 6:42 helped Providence regain the lead 19-17.
• A 7-0 run gave the Red Storm a 24-19 lead, but Geary was able to halt the drought with her fourth bucket of the game.
• St. John's extended its run to 15-2 to take a 32-21 advantage, forcing a Providence timeout with 1:45 on the clock.

Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) scored six-straight points to get the Friars within 32-27 at halftime.
• Geary paced the Friars with eight points on 4-6 shooting from the field.
• Baskerville checked in with six points and a team-best five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) dished four assists in the first half,
• St. John's was scoreless the final 1:47 of the second quarter.
• Unique Drake paced all scorers with 11 points for St. John's, while Leilani Correa added eight points and seven rebounds.
THIRD QUARTER:
• Geary opened the scoring with a three to cut the Friars' deficit to two (32-30).
• St. John's ended a scoreless drought of nearly five minutes, Correa hit a three with 6:56 on the clock, followed by a lay-in by Drake to give the Red Storm a 37-30 lead (6:21).
• The Red Storm ended the quarter with a 7-1 scoring advantage and took a 48-35 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Spiwak hit back-to-back threes in a span of 1:32 to get the Friars within single digits (50-41) with 7:32 remaining in the game.

Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) made it an 8-0 run for the Friars with a runner in the lane to make it a seven-point game (50-43).
• St. John's responded with a 10-0 run to balloon its lead back to 17 (60-43).

Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Okla.) found the hoop with 2:36 left, converting a lay-up on the left block.
• Cooper's bucket marked the Friars' only field goal in the final 6:50 of the game.
• The Red Storm went on to claim a 65-47 victory.
NOTES / HIGHTLIGHTS:
• Geary paced the Friars in scoring for the second-straight game, with 13 points.
• Geary shot 6-12 from the field, including 1-2 from three-point land, and added four rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.
• Spiwak finished the day with 10 points and a game-high five assists.
• Baskerville led the Friars on the board with six rebounds and she also registered six points, two blocked shots and one assist.
• With her six boards, Baskerville has moved into 23
rd place on the Friars' all-time career rebounding list, with 571. She recently passed Joanie Powers '86, while recorded 566 rebounds in her career.
• Drake led all scorers with 17 points, pacing three other Red Storm players in double figures.
• St. John's outscored Providence 18-2 in fast-break points and 19-2 in points off of turnovers.
• Williams completed the day with two assists and moved into a tie for 13
th place on the Friars all-time career assist list with Diann Reynolds '88 (299).
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will close out the regular-season schedule with home games against Villanova and DePaul next week. The Friars host the Wildcats on Feb. 24 at 1:00 p.m., with the regular-season finale against the Blue Demons on Feb. 27 at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network / FloHoops.
