PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team suited up just seven players in a 60-48 road victory against BIG EAST foe Creighton on Feb. 10. It marked Providence's second game in 32 days, following a series of COVID-related issues. The Friars improved to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in the BIG EAST. Creighton dropped to 4-8 on the year (3-5 BIG EAST).
FIRST QUARTER:
• The Friars got out to a 4-0 lead on buckets from
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) and
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.).
• Creighton didn't get on the board until the 6:20 mark but scored five-straight points to take a slim lead at 5:38 (5-4).
• The Bluejays bounced out to a 12-8 lead with 3:12 on the clock.
• Providence closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 17-12 advantage at the break.
• Williams led the Friars with seven points on 3-4 shooting from the field and also grabbed a team-high three boards.
SECOND QUARTER:
• Creighton opened the scoring in the second quarter with a three-point bucket by Temi Carda.
• Providence answered with five-straight points to regain its seven-point lead (22-15).
• With the Bluejays in a scoring drought spanning 2:18,
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) scored five-straight points to take a 27-18 lead, forcing a Creighton timeout with 4:21 on the clock.
• Baskerville scored eight of the Friars' first 10 points in the second quarter on 3-3 shooting.
• After the timeout, Providence went cold from the floor until Williams hit a coast-to-coast lay-up as time expired in the half.
• Creighton was unable to take advantage of the Friars' drought, as it also found itself scoreless for the final 4:03 of the half.
• Providence took a 29-21 lead into halftime.
• The Friars shot 50-percent from the field in the first half (11-22) and converted all six of their free-throw attempts.
• Creighton shot 24-percent from the field (7-29) but managed to stay in the game with a 5-12 performance from the three-point arc (41.7-percent).
• Williams led all scorers in the half with nine points, while Baskerville posted eight points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
THIRD QUARTER:
•
Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) notched her first points of the game on a three-pointer with 8:01 on the game clock to push the Friars' lead to double digits (32-21).
• Spiwak hit her second three of the game at 6:26 to give Providence a 14-point margin after a monster offensive rebound and kick-out by Grace Efosa
• The Friars held a 39-27 edge at the media timeout (4:44).
• Providence maintained a double-digit margin until DeArica Pryor drained a three-point bucket with 33-seconds left in the frame to make it a 47-38 game heading into the final 10 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Baskerville scored the Friars' first two buckets of the fourth quarter to get her team out to a 51-38 lead (8:23).
• Providence went scoreless for over four minutes while Creighton inched within 51-44.

Sophia Widmeyer halted the run with 4:00 left in the game as she drained a three from the left wing, marking her first points of the game. Widmeyer's three helped the Friars regain a double-digit lead (54-44).
• Williams hit a pair of free throws and
Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Okla.) converted a lay-up to cap a 7-0 run and give Providence a 58-44 lead with 1:10 to play.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• It marked the Friars' second win all-time on Creighton's home court and just the third win overall in the all-time series. Creighton leads the all-time series, 14-3, including a 6-2 mark on its home court.
• Providence traveled just seven players for the game, and all seven cracked the scoring column.
• Williams led all scorers with 17 points and added four rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot.
• With her four assists, Williams now has 289 assists in her career an is just one shy of tying Sonya Lewis '94 for 15
th on Providence's all-time assist list with 290 handouts.
• Baskerville registered her fourth double-double of the season, and 16
th of her career, with 14 points and 10 boards. She also added four blocked shots, three steals and one assist.
• All four of Baskerville's double-doubles have come during BIG EAST play.
• Widmeyer stepped up for the Friars in a big way, grabbing a career-high nine rebounds in 31 minutes of action. She added two steals, one assist and a critical three-point bucket with 4:00 minutes left in regulation to give the Friars a 10-point advantage.
• Geary, Spiwak and Cooper each completed the night with eight points.
• Providence was 14-14 from the free-throw line in the game.
• The Friars held the scoring edge in points off turnovers (18-11), points in the paint (28-18), second-chance points (13-4) and fast-break points (8-6).

• Providence returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 against Marquette.
• Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on BEDN/FloHoops.
