PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 25 Providence College men's soccer team (6-1-2, 2-0-1 BIG EAST) will travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to face the St. John's University Red Storm (7-2-1, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00PM. The Friars enter the match having won four of their last five matches against Loyola University Maryland, 3-1(Sept. 10), No. 19 Seton Hall (Sept. 18), 3-2, a 3-0 win against Brown (Sept. 22), a 3-2 victory in the BIG EAST home opener against Xavier University (Sept. 25), and a 2-2 draw at Marquette University (Oct. 2)

Scouting the Red Storm… The Red Storm has not lost a game in their last seven matches posting a record of 6-0-1 in that span. The Red Storm has competed in three BIG EAST games with wins against Xavier, 1-0 (Sept. 18), Creighton 2-0 (Sept. 24), and a tie against UCONN in their most previous match 1-1 (Oct. 2). St. John's is posting 1.4 goals per game while only allowing 0.6 to their opponents. Red shirt junior Luka Gavran (Ontario, Canada) has saved 84% of the shots he's faced this season, only allowing six goals on the season. The Red Storm are led in goals scored by senior Brandon Knapp (Abingdon, Md.) and graduate student Lucas Bartlett (Overland Park, Kan.), each with three goals on the season.
Scouting the Friars… The Friars have won four of their last five games and have not lost a game in over a month (Sept. 3).
Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) leads the Friars in points this season with six goals and one assist. McSorley has scored goals in four of the previous five games helping contribute to the Friars' unbeaten streak.
Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) also contributes to the Friars' prolific offense with four goals and four assists on the season and was recognized twice for BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (Aug. 30, Sept. 20). The Friars have outscored their opponents 25-12 this season, average 14 shots and just under three goals per game. On the defensive end, the Friars have held opponents to 1.33 goals per match, with help from senior defender and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 29),
Ramzi Qawasmy (Landsdale, Pa.), who has played all but six minutes on the season.
Friars against ranked opponents… The Friars have played three of their eight games in the 2021 season against ranked opponents and hold a 2-1-0 record. On Aug. 26
th, they hosted No. 23 Fordham and posted a 3-0 victory. On Sept. 3
rd the Friars travelled to No. 14 New Hampshire, where they lost 2-1. On Sept. 18, the Friars opened conference play with a win at No. 19 Seton Hall, 3-2.
Friars undefeated in BIG EAST… The Friars opened up BIG EAST play against No. 19 Seton Hall on Sept. 18 where the Friars came back from two one-goal deficits to win 3-2 with two goals in the last 10 minutes from
Brendan McSorley and
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal). In the Friars' BIG EAST home opener against Xavier on Sept. 25, the Friars came back from 1-0 to win 3-2 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. In their most recent match against Marquette University on Oct. 2, the Friars overcame a 2-0 deficit with four minutes to play to tie the game 2-2 and keep their unbeaten streak alive.
