Puck Drop
The Providence College women's hockey team is set to host the Boston University Terriers this Sunday, Oct. 31 for a single Hockey East match-up. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena.
Scouting the Friars
The Friars are currently 3-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in Hockey East play. Last weekend, Providence traveled to Upstate N.Y. where they faced-off against the Union Dutchwomen and the RPI Engineers.
The Friars defeated the Dutchwomen, 2-1, scoring two third period goals to secure the win.
Claire Tyo (Massena, N.Y.) netted the first goal for the Friars on the power play after Union was whistled for interference. Tyo was assisted by
Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) on her first goal of the season.
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) scored the game winner for the Friars, 2-1, with just 3:04 minutes left to play. In addition to being the game-winner, the goal served as Hendrikson's first collegiate point. Hendrikson was assisted by Bochna and
Ashlyn Garnett (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia).
Goaltender
Mireille Kingsley (Sudbury, Ontario) earned her first career win against Union, as well as her first start. She recorded 17 saves on the night to help the Friars in their victory.
In last Saturdays match against RPI, the Friars fell, 2-0, despite holding a 42-25 lead in shots over the Engineers.
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) made 23 stops for a .920 save percentage on the day.
Going into only their seventh game of the season, Providence has thirteen different players in the line-up with at least a point. Eleven different players have posted an assist, while seven players have found the back of the net.
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) and
Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) are the leading point scorers for the Friars, with five each. Lunny has scored three goals and two assists for the Friars while Becker has netted two goals and three assists. Lunny also leads the Friars in blocks (12).
Senior
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) has started five games in the net. She holds a .958 save percentage and 1.16 goals against average. The netminder has made 137 total saves this season.
Fresh Friar Faces
Providence welcomes six new players to the roster for the 2021-22 season.
Ashlyn Garnett (Nova Scotia, Canada) comes from Canada as the remaining five enter Providence from the United States;
Lily Martinson (Allen, Texas),
Kailey Sato (South Pasadena, Calif),
Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.),
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.), and
Ashley Clark (North Weymouth, Mass.)
Scouting the Terriers
The Terriers enter the game with a 4-1-3 overall record and a 3-0-3 mark in conference. Boston University played Vermont Friday, Oct. 29 in a Hockey East matchup, tying 1-1 through 60 minutes and overtime. The Terriers earned a shootout win after goalie Kate Stuart stopped all three of Vermont's shootout attempts. Last weekend, the Terriers also matched up against RPI and Union. The Terriers fell (2-4) to the Engineers but grabbed a victory over the Engineers (4-1).
Who to Watch
Courtney Correia is the leading point scorer for the Terriers (10) with five goals and five assits. She is followed by Julia Nearis and Mackenna Parker. Nearis has tallied nine points (three goals, six assists) while Parker has tallied seven (two goals, five assists).
Kate Staurt and Callie Shanahan have shared time between the pipes for the Terriers. Stuart holds a 1.90 goals against average and .932 save percentage and Shanahan has a 1.00 goals against average and a .955 save percentage.
