Friars outshot the Wildcats, 28-7.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The 18th-ranked Providence College Friars men's soccer team tied Villanova University, 0-0, on Saturday, October 30 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.  Friar goalkeeper Lukas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) made two saves to help the Friars post their fifth shutout of the season.  With the tie, the Friars finished the regular season with a 6-0-2 mark at home, which is just the first time since 1973 and just the second time ever that the Friars were undefeated at home in the regular season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
  • After 45 minutes of action, the score was tied at 0-0.
  • The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 5-1, in the first half.
  • Just 1:15 into the second half, Villanova's Balthi Saunders had a good scoring chance when he fired a shot from 25 yards out that Friar goalkeeper Lukas Burns partially saved before it hit the post and came out.
  • At 66:21 the Friars had their best scoring chance of the game as Davis Smith (Amherst, Mass.) headed a free kick from Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain).  Davis' head ball hit the inside of the left post and came back out where the Villanova goalkeeper made the save.
  • With 22 seconds left in regulation Davis had another header that hit off the cross bar and came out.
  • The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 16-4, in the second half.
  • Six minutes into the first overtime Smith sent a side volley over the Wildcats' net.
  • The Friars outshot Villanova, 3-1, in the first overtime.
  • The Friars held the advantage in shots for the game at 28-7.
  • Goalkeeper Lucas Burns (Cinnaminson, N.J.) posted his fifth shutout of the season.
  • The Friars are alone in second place in BIG EAST league standings with 18 points; one point ahead of third-place St. John's (17 points).  Each team has one game remaining in the regular season.
