PROVIDENCE, R.I. –The 16th-ranked Providence College Friars defeated the University of Connecticut Huskies, 2-1, on Saturday, October 23 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Junior Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) opened the scoring when he blasted a shot from outside the box on the left side that deflected off the cross bar and then off the back of the goalie at 55:26. UConn evened the game at 1-1 when Okem Chime converted on a side volley from in front of the net at 68:53. With 3:41 remaining in the game, Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.) redirected a pass into the lower left side of the net to give the Friars their ninth win of the season.

Luis Garcia scored the first goal of the game at 55:26 when he rifled a shot off the cross bar that then deflected off the back of the goalie. Paulo Lima and Simon Triantafilou assisted on the goal.
Gage Raftery had a great opportunity to put the Friars up 2-0 when he was alone in front of the net but the UConn goalie Jahmali Waite made a diving save.
The Huskies got on the scoreboard at 68:53 when Okem Chime scored in front of the net with a side volley.
Raftery again had a chance to put the Friars ahead when he was alone in front of the UConn net but his shot hit the left post.
Vang's goal was the team's 24th second half goal of the season, while the squad has scored eight goals in the first half this season.
