Scouting the Bulldogs… The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 victory over Xavier University on Oct. 13
th after Butler's Griffin DeBolt (Westerville, Ohio) converted on a game-winning penalty kick. The Bulldogs are led in scoring by junior forward Wilmer Cabrera Jr. (Bogota, Columbia) who has posted three goals this season. The Bulldogs have scored eight goals on the season and currently average .73 goals scored per match. Butler has allowed 11 goals on the year and currently stand tied for fifth in the BIG EAST.
Scouting the Friars… The Friars are now atop the BIG EAST standings after defeating No. 1 ranked Georgetown on Oct. 13, 3-0, in Providence, R.I. Senior midfielder
Luis Garcia (Gran Canaria, Spain) scored two goals and posted one assist in the Friars' victory. The Friars are the only team in the BIG EAST without a loss in conference play. The Friars are 3-1-2 on the road this season and have not lost a game since Sept. 3 where they played at then No. 14 New Hampshire. Providence leads the BIG EAST in points per game averaging 7.5 as well as goals per game averaging 2.5. The Friars are led in goals by
Brendan McSorley (Randolph, N.J.) who has posted six goals on the season and is currently tied in the BIG EAST for goals scored and goals per game.
Friars against ranked opponents… The Friars have played four of their 12 games in the 2021 season against ranked opponents and hold a 3-1-0 record. On Aug. 26
th, they hosted No. 23 Fordham and posted a 3-0 victory. On Sept. 3
rd the Friars travelled to No. 14 New Hampshire, where they lost 2-1. On Sept. 18, the Friars opened conference play with a win at No. 19 Seton Hall, 3-2. On Oct. 13, the Friars defeated No. 1 ranked Georgetown, 3-0, in Providence, R.I.
Friars undefeated in BIG EAST… The Friars opened up BIG EAST play against No. 19 Seton Hall on Sept. 18 where the Friars came back from two one-goal deficits to win 3-2 with two goals in the last 10 minutes from
Brendan McSorley and
Paulo Lima (Lisbon, Portugal). In the Friars' BIG EAST home opener against Xavier on Sept. 25, the Friars came back from 1-0 to win 3-2 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. On Oct. 6, the Friars traveled to Jamaica, N.Y. to face St. John's where the Friars posted a 1-0 win in overtime. On Oct. 9
th the Friars hosted DePaul University that concluded in a 1-1 draw. In the Friars' latest match, the team defeated No. 1 ranked Georgetown 3-0 on Oct. 13 in Providence, R.I.
