Women's Basketball Falls To Butler, 51-42

Mary Baskerville recorded her fifth double-double of the year on 14 points and 13 rebounds.

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Butler, 51-42, at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Feb. 23. 
 
FIRST QUARTER:
• Butler took an 8-1 lead to start the game, but Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) knocked down a triple on her first shot attempt of the day with 6:24 on the clock to make it an 8-4 game. The score remained unchanged heading into the first media timeout at 4:59.
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) ended a two-minute scoring drought for the Friars hitting the first of two free throws with 42-seconds on the clock. 
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) got the offensive rebound and cashed in on a pair of free throws with 39-seconds on the clock to get Providence within five (17-12).
• Butler took an 18-12 lead at the break.
• Webb and Baskerville each scored five points to lead the Friars' offense.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) got the second quarter going with a three-point basket, but Upe Atosu answered with a triple of her own for the Bulldogs (21-15).
• A 7-0 run gave Butler a 28-17 lead, due in large part to four Providence College turnovers.
Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Webb combined to score seven-straight points in the final 3:59 of the quarter to get the Friars within four at halftime (28-24).
• Butler was 0-6 from the field in the final 4:54 of the quarter.
• Webb paced the Friars with eight points in the opening 20 minutes, while Baskerville added seven points and 10 boards. 
 
THIRD QUARTER:
• Providence opened the third with a 7-2 scoring run, capped by a three-point bucket by Spiwak to give the Friars their first lead of the game (31-30) heading into the media timeout at the 4:52 mark.
• An intentional foul was called on Butler's Katherine Strong with 1:36 on the clock and Webb went to the line to shoot the free throws. Webb made both attempts to increase the Friars' lead to 33-30.
• Butler got back on the board with a pair of free throws to end a scoring drought of over seven minutes with 22-seconds left on the clock.
• Providence outscore Butler 9-4 in the third quarter and took a 33-32 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Providence held a 35-33 lead with 7:47 on the clock, but Butler answered with an 9-0 run in a span of 1:02 to go ahead 42-35 with 6:50 to play.
• The Friars cut the deficit to as little as six points on three occasions down the stretch.
• Butler finished the game 5-6 from the free throw line in the final 1:05 of regulation to hold on for the win.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Baskerville recorded her fifth double-double of the season and 11th of her career with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
• Webb added 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
• Providence held a 39-32 advantage on the glass and held a 12-3 edge in second-chance points.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• Providence will conclude its regular-season schedule with a pair of home games at Alumni Hall against Georgetown (Feb. 28) and Villanova (Mar. 1). Prior to the Friars' game against Villanova, the program will hold its annual senior day ceremony and will honor its lone senior, Ny-Asia Franklin (East Orange, N.J.).
