Women's Basketball Falls To Boston College In Chestnut Hill, 58-46

Mary Baskerville nets a season-high 20 points on the night.
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – The Providence College women's basketball team was within striking distance for much of the second half, but Boston College held on down the stretch for a 58-46 win in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Dec. 2.
FIRST QUARTER:
• Boston College started the game on a 5-0 run before Mary Baskerville got a bucket to drop from the right block at the 8:07 mark (5-2).
• Providence made it a 5-4 game on a base-line jumper from Olivia Orlando, but the Eagles responded with five-straight points to go ahead 10-5.
• The Eagles held a 12-6 advantage at the first media timeout (4:33).
• Providence was held scoreless for more than 4-minutes while the Eagles extended their lead to 20-6.
• Lauren Sampson ended the drought on a three-point bucket from the baseline with 56-seconds left and the score remained 20-9 at the break.
SECOND QUARTER:
• Providence outscored Boston College 7-2 through the opening two and a half minutes of the quarter to get within six (22-16).
• The Friars' defense held the Eagles scoreless for nearly six minutes, but only managed one basket of their own during that stretch to keep it a six-point game (24-18).
• Boston College held a 6-1 advantage in scoring during the final 1:41 of the quarter to take a 30-19 lead into halftime.
• Boston College held a 15-2 edge on the scoreboard in points off of turnovers. The Friars committed 15 miscues, while the Eagles turned it over eight times.
• Seven different Friars cracked the scoring column led by Lauren Sampson's six points.
• Cameron Swartz paced the Eagles with nine points.
• Mary Baskerville, who entered the game as the Friars' team leader in scoring and rebounding, played just three minutes in the first half due to early foul trouble.
THIRD QUARTER:
• The Eagles extended their lead to 15 (38-23) with 3:07 left in the frame.
• Providence responded with a 6-0 run over the next 2:00 minutes to get the game back to single digits (38-29).
• Alyssa Geary fed Baskerville with a nice pass down low as time expired in the quarter to keep the Friars within nine heading into the final 10 minutes of regulation (42-33).
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Providence cut the deficit to six (49-43) with 4:32 to play in regulation.
• Boston College outscored Providence 9-3 down the stretch to claim the win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Boston College entered the game receiving votes in the Associated Press Top-25.
• Baskerville recorded her first 20-point game of the season and fifth of her career.
• After playing just three minutes in the first half, Baskerville finished the night with 20 points on 10-16 shooting, and added six boards, three blocks and one steal.
• Providence held the Eagles to just 58 points on the night. Boston College entered the game averaging 85 per game.

• Providence College will open BIG EAST Conference play with a pair of road games at Marquette (Dec. 4) and Butler (Dec. 5).
