Women's Hoops Falls To Marquette In BIG EAST Opener, 89-40

Friars head to Indianapolis to take on Butler at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – The Providence College women's basketball team dropped its first BIG EAST contest of the season, 89-40, to the Marquette Golden Eagles in Milwaukee, Wis. on Dec. 4. The Friars drop to 2-3 overall, 0-1 BIG EAST on the season, while Marquette improved to 2-1 (1-0 BIG EAST).

FIRST QUARTER:
- Both teams struggled to score to start the game, shooting a combined 2-13.
- The Friars' defense caused trouble for the Golden Eagles early, forcing four turnovers in five minutes.
- With the score tied, 9-9, Marquette went on an 8-0 run to conclude the opening 10 minutes for a 17-9 lead.
- Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) led the Friars with five points.
- The Golden Eagles outrebounded the Friars, 15-4.
SECOND QUARTER:
- Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) knocked down a three-pointer from the right wing to end a 10-minute scoring drought for the Friars, ending a 19-0 Golden Eagles run.
- Marquette outscored the Friars 24-3 in the quarter and took a 41-12 lead into halftime.
- Providence shot 5-28 (17.9%) from the field, while Marquette shot 16-32 (50%).
THIRD QUARTER:
- Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Okla.) hit the first three-pointer of her career with the shot clock winding down at the 6:44 mark.
- Marquette outscored Providence, 32-18, in the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER:
- Marquette held a 16-10 scoring advantage in the final frame.
- Providence outrebounded Marquette, 13-11.
NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS
- The Friars fall to 5-19 all-time against Marquette.
- All 10 Friars entered the scoring column.
- Spiwak reached double figures for the third time in five games for the Friars. This marks her 15th double-digit scoring game of her career.
- Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) recorded team-highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (five).
