Women's Hoops Runs Away In Second Half To Defeat Rhode Island, 76-50

Four Friars score in double figures while the team combined to shoot 58-percent from the field.
KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team outscored the Rams 35-18 in the second half to run away with a 76-50 win at Rhode Island on Nov. 28. Four Friars scored in double figures, while the team combined to shoot 58-percent from the field (34-59).
FIRST QUARTER:
• Alyssa Geary and Kyra Spiwak each drained a three-point bucket on the Friars' first two possessions.
• Providence started the game on an 11-0 run before URI scored its first points of the game at the 5:53 mark on a pair of free throws (11-2).
• Rhode Island hit its first field goal at the 4:31 mark to make it a 13-5 game coming out of the media timeout.
• The Friars finished the frame with a 24-16 lead.
• Spiwak notched eight points to lead the offense on 3-4 shooting from the field, including 2-3 from beyond the arc.
• Chanell Williams added seven points on 3-3 shooting and dished two assists.
SECOND QUARTER:
• Rhode Island used a 7-0 run to get within three (26-23).
• Mary Baskerville ended the Friars' scoring drought with a turn-around jumper with 5:44 on the clock (28-23).
• URI cut the deficit to two (30-28) with 3:51 remaining in the quarter, but freshman Grace Efosa scored her first points of the game for Providence on a drive to the hoop at 3:15.
• Providence closed the quarter with a 9-2 scoring advantage, capped by a short baseline jumper from Spiwak with one-second remaining on the clock.
• Spiwak went into halftime with a game-high 12 points on 5-7 shooting.
• Baskerville contributed eight points and six rebounds in the opening half.
• Providence shot 58-percent from the floor in the first half (18-31), including 63-percent (5-8) from three.
THIRD QUARTER:
• Baskerville scored the Friars' first six points in the third.
• Providence held a 48-40 lead at the media timeout (4:48) as URI used a slim 8-7 scoring edge through the opening 5:12 of play.
• A 9-0 run by the Friars forced a URI timeout with 1:20 on the clock to give Providence a 61-42 lead.
• Providence extended its run to 11-0 on its first offensive possession out of the break on a reverse lay-up by Andrea Cooper.
• The Friars held a 63-42 lead at the conclusion of the third frame.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• The Friars held URI without a field goal for more than four minutes late in the fourth quarter to take a 76-48 lead.
• URI got back on the scoreboard with 44-seconds left.
• The Friars outscored the Rams 13-8 in the fourth to take a 76-50 victory.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence finished the game 34-59 from the field (57.6-percent), including 7-14 from three-point territory (50-percent).
• In the Friars' season opener vs. Quinnipiac, Providence shot just 2-10 from beyond the arc (20-percent).
• Baskerville paced the Friars with 16 points and seven rebounds. She shot 8-12 from the field on the day.
• Spiwak notched 15 points to get into double figures for the second-straight game. She shot 6-10 from the floor, including 3-6 from beyond the arc.
• Williams contributed 14 points, three rebounds and four assists.
