Men and Women’s Indoor Track Race At The John Thomas Terrier Classic

The Friars travel to Kingston, R.I. for the URI Coaches Tribute on Saturday, Feb. 8.
BOSTON, Mass.- The Providence College men's and women's indoor track raced at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University. The two-day meet was held on Friday, Jan. 24 and Saturday, Jan. 25.
For the women, Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.), Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Ontario) and Maria Coffin (Annapolis, Md.) all finished top-10 in their respective events. In the 3000-meter, Wheeler placed fifth (9:22.88) and Tuck finished with a personal-best time of 9:33.32 in tenth place. Coffin finished sixth in the 5000-meter run (16:44.23) and qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Daniel Rooney (Rochester, N.Y.), Jack Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.), Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) all earned top ten finishes. Rooney won his heat (8.73) and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles finals (8.73). In the 800-meter race, Carleo placed eighth overall (1:51.58) after coming in second in his heat. Carleo's time qualified him for the IC4A Championship. Jendzejec placed tenth in the 1000-meter run and qualified for the IC4A Championships with his time (2:28.04).
Other Notable Performances:
Bridget Mitchell (Milton, Mass.) placed 15th in the mile run. Her time of 4:53.38 qualified her for the ECAC Championships.
Ryan Gallagher (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) posted a personal-best and qualified for the IC4A Championship with his time of 8:17.73 in the 3,000-meter race. Gallagher finished 26th overall.
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) qualified for the IC4A Championship in the 3,000-meter race. Rocha finished 36th overall with a personal-best time of 8:21.87.
The Friars compete next at the URI Coaches Tribute on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Kingston, R.I.
