MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced on Monday (Jan. 13) 13 nominees for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award, which is celebrating its 25
th year. Providence College junior defenseman
Davis Bunz (Middleton, Wis.) was named as one of the 13 nominees. Davis' brother, Jake, won the 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award as a member of the University of Wisconsin men's hockey team.
The award is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen – a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.
An active member of the Fond Blanc Foundation (
https://fondblanc.org/), Bunz has taken several mission trips to the Fond Blanc orphanage in Haiti to assist in the rebuilding efforts after a 2010 earthquake, as well serving as a role model for the children at the orphanage. The Fond Blanc orphanage currently houses 54 children. The Bunz family has been instrumental in establishing the foundation, as Davis' mother Tia is the Executive Director of the Fond Blanc Foundation. His sister, Olivia, serves as the Director of Operations, while his brother, Jake, was an intern.
In addition to his work with the Fond Blanc Foundation, Bunz is also an active member of the Providence College Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
Finalists for the 2020 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The recipient will be honored in a ceremony at the NCAA Men's Frozen Four on April 10 in Detroit, Mich.
