Women’s Soccer Tops UMass Lowell in Double Overtime

Hannah McNulty’s second goal of the season, in the 103rd minute, proved to be the difference.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team defeated the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 1-0, in double overtime on Sept. 5 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The Friars improved to 3-2-0 and captured a second overtime victory this season.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-  Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) made a key save for the Friars in the 32nd minute to keep the game scoreless. Emily Nelson placed a ball toward the top left corner, but Hogan got her fingertips to the shot and pushed it off the post and out of danger.
- The Riverhawks had a chance in the final minute of the first half but were denied by the crossbar.
- Providence increased pressure in the second half, outshooting UMass Lowell 5-4 and forcing Riverhawk goalkeeper Annerens Tjim to make two saves.
- The Friars continued to outshoot the Riverhawks in the overtime frames, leading 3-1 in shots.
- Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) scored in the 103rd minute to seal the win. Ava Brandt (Chester, N.J.) played a ball into the box, which bounced around until McNulty played it off a defender and in.
- McNulty's goal was her second of the season and 15th of her career.
- Hogan captured her second shutout of the season and improved to 3-2-0 in net.
