Hannah McNulty’s Late Header Earns 1-1 Draw At Boston College

Providence holds a 3-2-1 overall record and 2-0-1 record in overtime games this season.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Providence College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against the Boston College Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 12 in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The draw marked both sides' first tie of the season. Providence knotted the game, 1-1, in the 88th minute on Hannah McNulty's (Warwick, R.I.) team-leading third goal of the season. Angie Suaza (Nashua, N.H.) played a free kick into the six-yard box that McNulty headed home near post. Providence now holds a 3-2-1 overall record and 2-0-1 record in overtime games this season. Boston College entered the match with a 6-0-0 record.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Providence built the first promising opportunity of the game in the sixth minute. Alessandra Arace (Pittsfield, Mass.) slipped a through ball into the box that Amber Birchwell ran onto (Mastic, N.Y.). Birchwell attempted to beat the goalkeeper far post but Allie Augur of Boston College made the first save of the game.
- Jana Braun (Frittlingen, Germany) put Providence's second shot on net in the 16th minute. Braun gathered the ball at the top of the 18 before putting a low shot on net that resulted in Augur's second save of the evening.
- Boston College hit the crossbar in the 19th minute for the Eagles first true opportunity. The Eagles put pressure on after a free kick as Gaby Carreiro took a shot at net from the far corner that hit off the crossbar before being cleared.
- Providence led in shots on net, 3-0, at the break.
- The Eagles took the lead in the 56th minute of play. Sam Smith played a ball to Riley Lochhead on the end line that she lofted over the middle to Gianna Mitchell, who headed the ball past Hogan on the near post.
- McNulty matched Mitchell's header goal in the 88th minute, this time off a set piece. Providence earned a free kick between the edge of the eighteen and the right corner. Suaza played a ball over the top that McNulty headed into the near post. The goal marked McNulty's third of the season and Suaza's first career point as a Friar with the assist.
- The game marked Providence's third overtime match this season and now holds a 2-0-1 record in those contests.

SCORING SUMMARY
1-0 – (BC) – 55:50 – Gianna Mitchell (Lochhead, Smith) – Sam Smith played a ball up the left side to Riley Lochhead on the end line. Lochhead played a cross to Mitchell at the top of the six-yard line that she headed in the bottom left corner.
1-1 – (PC) – 87:22 – Hannah McNulty (Suaza) – Suaza played a free kick from the right corner into the six-yard box that McNulty finished near post on a header.
