PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College field hockey team fell to No. 6 Louisville on Sept. 29 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Cards improved to 8-1 on the season, while Providence dropped to 5-4 overall.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
• Louisville got on the board 12:46 into the game as Mercedes Pastor scored on a direct shot during a penalty corner. Carter Ayars and Meghan Schneider were credited with assists on the play.
•
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.) made three saves for the Friars in the first half, including one sprawling kick-save to keep the Cardinals out of the net.
• The Friars remained within striking distance with a solid effort defensively to keep it a one-goal game, but were unable to generate dangerous attacking opportunities inside the 25.
• Louisville tacked on an insurance goal with just 2:45 remaining in regulation as Ayars tipped in a goal off a penalty corner, assisted by Pastor.
• Rice finished the day with four saves.
• The Friars were shut-out, offensively, for the first time this season.
