PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell in its BIG EAST opener to Georgetown, 3-2. The Friars won the first two sets before the Hoyas rallied to take the final three, 26-24, 25-20, 17-25, 20-25, 8-15. Providence drops to 5-9, 0-1 in the BIG EAST while Georgetown improves to 11-4, 1-0 in the BIG EAST.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS- After a back and forth beginning to the set where it was tied 6-6, the Friars went on a run to build the lead to as many as four (17-13). The Hoyas would go on a 5-1 run to tie the set at 18. The set would go back and forth for the remainder with the Friars pulling out the win, 26-24.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had a set-high six kills on 10 total attacks with a .500 hitting percentage. Leitman added a team-high four digs on the set.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded a set-high nine assists.
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) tallied three block assists.
The Friars held the Hoyas to a .062 hitting percentage and recorded four total team blocks
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS- Providence jumped out to a 4-1 run to begin the set before Georgetown countered with an 8-3 run to take the lead (9-7). This set featured eight ties with the latest being 17-17. The Friars would go on an 8-3 run to end the set and win, 25-20.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) led the Friars with five kills on 12 total attacks.
Barber registered a set-high eight assists to go with four digs.
Natalie Benson (Bourbonnais, Ill.) led the Friars with five digs.
Providence held Georgetown to a .088 hitting percentage.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS- After the set was tied at four, the Hoyas went on a 5-0 run to create some separation (9-4). Georgetown would keep the lead and take the set, 25-17.
Leitman registered three kills on four total attacks.
Barber tallied four assists.
Schaible had a set-high seven digs.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS- Georgetown jumped out to a 7-3 lead to begin the set. The Hoyas maintained the lead throughout and claimed the set, 25-20.
Addison Witte (Troy, Mo.) led the Friars with four kills on six total attacks.
Barber recorded a set-highs 10 assists and five digs.

Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied three digs each.
FIFTH SET HIGHLIGHTS- The Friars took the lead early in the set, 4-2. Georgetown would battle back to take the next four points and lead into the switch, 8-6. Georgetown would finish the match on a 7-2 run to win the set, 15-8.
Leitman and Witte recorded two kills on four total attacks each.
Barber registered three assists and three digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Leitman secured her third double-double on the season with 14 kills and 16 digs.
Barber notched her eighth straight double-double, giving her 12 on the season. She finished with 34 assists and 15 digs.
Benson was the third Friar with double-digit digs (13).
As a team, the Friars recorded 47 kills on 148 total attacks, 63 digs, 42 assists and nine total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friar will finish up their weekend against the Wildcats from Villanova on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Providence to conclude their opening BIG EAST weekend.
