FAIRFIELD, CONN.– The Providence College field hockey team fell to Fairfield, 2-1, in non-conference action on Sept. 22 in Fairfield, Conn. Providence dropped to 4-3 on the season, while the Stags improved to 7-1 overall.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
• The Friars got on the board just 6:55 into the game as
Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) scored on a penalty corner, assisted by
Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Maddie Babineau (Milton, Ontario).
• Fairfield tied the game, 1-1, with just eight-seconds left in the first quarter as Danielle Profita scored off a feed from Malen Iglesias.
• The Stags were awarded a penalty stroke 2:52 into the third quarter, which Emma Matlach managed to get passed
Lydia Rice (Carle Place, N.Y.). Rice dove right to make the stop and got a touch on the ball, but it ricocheted off her pad and bounced over the goal line.
• The Friars out-shot the Stags, 21-8, and held a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners for the game, including an 18-4 edge in shots during the second half.
• In the fourth quarter, Providence outshot Fairfield, 13-0, and held a 7-0 edge in offensive corners, but were unable to get the equalizer.
• Zoe Rosen collected seven saves for Fairfield in the win, while Rice finished the day with one save. Junior
Sydney Cramer (Sciota, Pa.) was credited with a defensive save for the Friars.

The Friars will return to action with a pair of home games next weekend at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. On Friday, Sept. 27, the Friars will host BIG EAST foe Temple at 6:00 p.m. Providence will close the weekend with a non-conference match against No. 7 Louisville on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
