PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team earned a 1-0 golden goal victory over the Texas Longhorns on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) scored the goal in the 98th minute.
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) played a ball on the endline to the middle of the box, and Grillakis one-timed a right-footed shot around the defender to the far post for the victory.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-Texas earned the first dangerous opportunity of the match on a set piece in the 11th minute. Haley Berg played a low ball from just outside the the 18-yard box, the ball redirected off
Olivia Lucia's leg and headed for the bottom left corner of the net. Providence's
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) made a diving save to force a corner kick.

Amber Birchwell nearly earned a penalty kick just four minutes later. Lucia played a ball over the top that Birchwell ran onto in the left side of the box. Birchwell was shouldered to the ground but the referee decided to play on.
- Both sides entered the locker room scoreless with Hogan making four saves in the opening 45 minutes.
- The Friars built a strong chance in the 65th minute.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) chested a pass off a throw in to freshman
Ava Brandt (Chester, N.J.). Brandt cut inside before putting a left-footed shot right over the top right frame that landed on top of the net.
- Providence and Texas traded opportunities in the final five minutes before heading to overtime. Haley Berg got behind the back line and tried to one-time a volley past Hogan that she corralled with three minutes remaining. McNulty took a free kick with 10 seconds remaining just outside the top of the 18-yard box that had a chance, but ended up on top of the net.
- Grillakis scored the golden goal in the 98th minute to send the Friars home with the win. Birchwell played the ball to Grillakis in the middle of the 18-yard box as she curled a right-footed shot around the defender and in.
- Providence has yet to allow multiple goals in a match this season.
- Texas was previously 3-0 against BIG EAST opponents in the history of their program.
