McNulty Scores The Golden Goal To Push Providence Over Northeastern, 2-1

The goal marked McNulty’s team-leading fourth goal of the season and second golden goal of the year.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team improved to 5-3-1 this season after defeating the Northeastern Huskies, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday, Sept. 22. Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) scored the golden goal on a right-footed shot from the top of the eighteen-yard box past the extended keeper.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Northeastern gained the lead with just 52 seconds remaining in the first half. Kerri Zerfoss finished a cross at the top of the six-yard box off a cross from Kayla McCauley.
- Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) wasted no time in the second half to score the equalizer. The goalkeeper came off her line to contest Grillakis at the top of the eighteen-yard box but ended up fouling Grillakis, rewarding her with a penalty kick. She slotted home the penalty kick to knot the game at one goal apiece. The goal marked Grillakis' third of the season and fourth of her career.
- Neither side could find the winning goal in regulation.
- McNulty scored the golden goal in the 96th minute of the first overtime period. She corralled the ball just outside the eighteen-yard box before turning and hitting a powerful low shot to the bottom right corner. The goal marked her team-leading fourth goal of the season and second golden goal this year.
- Providence improves to 4-0-1 in overtime games this season.
- Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) tallied six saves on the night to improve to 5-3-1 on the season.
