PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) to open the 15
th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic. The Friars have defeated the Knights in six-straight matches, including five-in-a-row in straight sets.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS- Providence won the first set, 25-18. The set was tied eight times throughout the set.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) recorded seven kills on 14 total attacks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Friars with 15 assists.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had a set-high .733 hitting percentage with five kills on seven total attacks.
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) tallied a set-high five digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS- Friars took the second set, 25-14. After the score was tied 1-1, the Friars led wire-to-wire for the remainder of the set. The Friars went on a 9-2 run to conclude the set.
Leitman had a set-high seven kills on 13 total attacks,
Alderson recorded four kills on seven total attacks with a .571 hitting percentage.
Barber tallied a set-high 13 assists.
LaMacchia registered a team-high five digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS- Providence came back in the set to win, 25-23.
Alderson registered a set-high five kills on seven total attacks with a .571 hitting percentage
Barber recorded 15 assists and six digs.
LaMacchia led the Friars in digs (7).
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
As a team, the Friars recorded 51 attacks on 124 total attacks, 64 digs and 50 assists.
Barber recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 43 assists and 10 digs.
Leitman registered a match-high 15 kills on 31 total attacks with five digs.
Alderson had a match-high .619 hitting percentage along with 14 kills on 21 total attacks.
The Friars had four players with double-digit digs. LaMacchia had a team-high 17 digs.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will play two matches tomorrow [Sept. 14] in the final day of the 15
th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic in Providence, R.I. Providence will take on Coppin State at 1:30 p.m., before concluding the tournament against Brown at 5:30 p.m.
