SMITHFIELD, R.I.-The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by the Bryant Bulldogs in four sets (13-25, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25) in Smithfield, R.I. on Sept. 10. The Friars drop to 3-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-5.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Bryant took the first set, 25-13.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) recorded three kills on six total attacks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied four assists.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:The Bulldogs won the second set, 25-21.
Leitman had four kills on eight total attacks to record a .500 hitting percentage.
Barber recorded a set-high seven assists and five digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:The Friars were down 11-5 before going on an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the set since 1-0. In the end, the Friars took the set 25-23.
Leitman paced the Friars with seven kills on 18 total attacks and added four digs.
Barber led the set with nine assists.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) contributed four digs.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS:The Bulldogs won the set, 25-21.
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) recorded four kills on eight total attacks.
Barber led the Friars with five assists.
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had a set-high seven digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Barber recorded her fifth double-double in seven marches with 25 assists and 11 digs.
Leitman tallied match-high 16 kills on 44 total attacks to go along with seven digs. The freshman had a match-high 17.5 points.
LaMacchia led the match with 14 digs.
As a team, the Friars had 35 kills on 125 total attacks, 53 digs, 34 assists and five total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Friars return to Providence for their 15th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 13-14. The tournament will consist of six matches over two days. The participating teams joining the Friars are Coppin State, Fairleigh Dickinson and Brown. The Friars first match will be Friday, September 13 at 5:30 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson.
