FAIRFAX, VA.- The Providence College volleyball team were defeated by East Carolina, 3-2, and beat George Mason, 3-0, on Saturday, September 1 in Fairfax, Va.
EAST CAROLINA MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
The Friars lost 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18, 9-15.
Freshman
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had game-highs in kills (20) and total attacks (53).
Junior
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had a game-high 49 assists and recorded 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.
Freshman
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded a team-best 17 digs and was one of four Friars with double-digit digs.
As a team, the Providence recorded 73 digs, 63 kills, 55 assists and eight total team blocks.
GEORGE MASON MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
The Friars earned their first win of the season after defeating the Patriots, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23.
Leitman had a game-high 17 kills and game-high 40 total attacks.
Barber recorded her second double-double of the day with a game-high 31 assists and 11 digs.
LaMacchia led the team with 13 digs.
As a team, the Friars recorded 50 digs, 41 kills, 38 assists and 18 total team blocks led by
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.).
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars return to action Wednesday, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. for its home opener against Merrimack College. The Warriors are embarking on their first season as an NCAA Division I program.
