The Friars lost to East Carolina before defeating George Mason in straight sets.
FAIRFAX, VA.-Â The Providence College volleyball team were defeated by East Carolina, 3-2, and beat George Mason, 3-0, on Saturday, September 1 in Fairfax, Va.

The Friars lost 21-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18, 9-15.

Freshman Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) had game-highs in kills (20) and total attacks (53).Â

Junior Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had a game-high 49 assists and recorded 11 digs for her first double-double of the season.

Freshman Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) recorded a team-best 17 digs and was one of four Friars with double-digit digs.

As a team, the Providence recorded 73 digs, 63 kills, 55 assists and eight total team blocks.

The Friars earned their first win of the season after defeating the Patriots, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23.

Leitman had a game-high 17 kills and game-high 40 total attacks.

LaMacchia led the team with 13 digs.
