Diallo Leads Team USA To A 119-84 Win With 20 Points And 11 Rebounds

LIMA, Peru – Team USA, which is made up of 12 BIG EAST players including Friars Alpha Diallo, David Duke, AJ Reeves and Nate Watson, won its Pan American Games opener with a 119-84 victory over Virgin Islands Wednesday at Dibos Coliseum. Diallo led the team with highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Team USA squad is led by Friar Head Coach Ed Cooley.

"I thought our depth was an important factor today along with our 3-point shooting," Cooley said. "We got contributions from everyone. We have to guard the ball a little better moving forward, but today was a good day for us."

In addition to Diallo's contributions, Duke added 13 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action. Watson had six points and four rebounds in 11 minutes of play. Reeves played four minutes in the win.

Team USA will return to action against Venezuela Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN3.

The BIG EAST Conference is representing USA Basketball at the Pan American Games.

The Pan American Games is a multi-sport event featuring teams from North, South and Central American and the Caribbean, which is organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and played every four years in the year preceding the Olympics (2019, 2023, etc.).
