The athletics department has hit a new milestone in fundraising in each of the last 12 years.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced today (July 10) that Providence College Athletics has surpassed the $7 million dollar mark in cash raised for the first time in the history of the College. Over 4,000 alumni, parents, students and friends gave a gift during the fiscal year from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. This marks the 12th-straight year the athletic fundraising has hit a new milestone at Providence College.

"Every dollar donated to Providence College has made a significant impact on the lives of our student-athletes," Athletics Director Bob Driscoll said. "We have invested millions of dollars in student-athlete wellness, scholarships, facility upgrades, retention of coaches, career programming and much more. Providence College has been transformed over the last 15 years under Father Shanley's leadership and the generosity of so many members of the Friar Family. We look forward to competing for BIG EAST, Hockey East and national championships with the help of resources we have been provided through these fundraised dollars."

The fiscal year was highlighted by a number of facility improvements, including the grand opening of the new Ruane Friar Development Center.  This state-of-the-art facility includes a student-athlete innovation lab featuring sleep pods, a CryoTherapy chamber, float tanks and recovery tools. A major focus of fundraised dollars has been student-athlete wellness programs, which focus on mental health, nutrition, leadership development and drug/alcohol prevention. There also has been over $1 million allocated toward scholarship endowments for various sports.

"All of us in Friartown are grateful to so many generous supporters of Providence College," Senior Associate Athletics Director Steven Napolillo '98 said. "Each donor has invested their hard earned money to help give our student-athletes the best experience in the classroom and on the field of play. No words can express the appreciation from all of the department, including student-athletes, coaches and administrators."

The major focus for this fiscal year will be to raise funds to create new scholarships and increase the revenue in the restricted accounts for all of the Friar athletic programs.
