VILLANOVA, PA.– The Providence College women's basketball team shot a season-low 20.8-percent (11-53) from the field in a 53-33 loss at Villanova on Feb. 1. The Friars dropped to 13-9 overall on the year and evened their mark in BIG EAST play at 5-5.  The Wildcats improved to 14-7 (5-5 BIG EAST).

Providence was cold from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play, as it converted just 4-28 attempts from the floor (.148). Meanwhile, Villanova hit 42.9-percent from the field (12-28), led by Kelly Jekot's 12 points.  The Wildcats closed the first half on a 14-2 run and took a 31-8 advantage into the locker room at the break. Â

The Friars outscored the Wildcats, 16-9, in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 16 heading into the final 10 minutes of action (40-24).

Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) hit a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to three (40-27). It proved to be as close as the Friars would get, as Villanova went on an 11-2 run heading into the media timeout to gain a 51-29 advantage.Â

Jekot and Adrianna Hahn each scored 14 points for Villanova, while Mary Gedaka chipped in 13 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) paced the Friars with eight points. Â
Olivia Orlando (Winthrop, Mass.) added six points and seven rebounds.
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) led the Friars with eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 3 against Georgetown at 2:00 p.m. The game will be played at McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C. and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
