WASHINGTON, D.C.– The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 61-56, on Feb. 3 in Washington, D.C.  The Friars dropped to 13-10 overall (5-6 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 11-11 (5-6 BIG EAST).

The Friars trailed 19-12 with 1:03 left in the first quarter, but closed with five-straight points to get within two at the break. Â
Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) hit just her third three-point bucket of the season as time was expiring to close the action.  Freshman forward
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) scored the Friars' first six points of the game. Williams finished the quarter with seven points. Â

Georgetown mounted another seven-point advantage in the second quarter (26-19), but the Friars' closed strong, once again.  Providence reeled off six-straight points to cut the Hoyas' lead to 26-25 at the half, punctuated by a short jumper in the paint by Baskerville at the buzzer.

Williams and Baskerville combined to score 17 of the Friars' 25 points in the first half. Baskerville also hauled in 12 rebounds and swatted three shots in the opening 20 minutes. Georgetown was led by Dionna White's 15 points.

Georgetown out-scored Providence 13-11 in the third quarter, to take a 39-36 lead heading into the final frame.

The Friars started the fourth quarter with a 10-5 scoring advantage to take a 46-44 lead with 6:24 on the clock.  Georgetown fought back to regain the lead and would mount a nine-point edge down the stretch.  Providence finished the game with four unanswered points as Georgetown captured the five-point win.

Baskerville finished the game with 10 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots.  Seniors
Jovana Nogic (Belgrade, Serbia) and
Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) also tallied 10 points, while Williams and Webb each chipped in nine points.

Dorothy Adomako led all scorers with 20 points for Georgetown and she added 10 points for a double-double. White finished with 19 and Mikayla Venson tallied 16 points.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Feb. 8 against Seton Hall at 7:00 p.m.  The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
