Women's Basketball Falls To Georgetown, 62-53

Providence returns to Alumni Hall for its first home game since Nov. 24 when the team hosts DePaul on Jan. 3. at 6:30 p.m.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Providence College women's basketball team was out-scored 26-16 in the fourth quarter en route to a 62-53 loss to Georgetown on Dec. 31 in Washington, D.C. The Friars dropped to 9-5 (0-2 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 4-9 (1-1 BIG EAST).
FIRST QUARTER:
• Georgetown got out to a seven-point lead (11-4) with 5:59 on the clock, as the Hoyas came out hot on the offensive end shooting an 80-percent clip.
• Providence answered with an 8-0 run to take a 12-11 lead, while holding the Hoyas scoreless for the final 5:59 of the frame.
SECOND QUARTER:
• The Hoyas scores five-straight points to start the second quarter to take a 16-12 edge.
• Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) halted the Hoyas' run with her second three pointer of the game, sparking a 7-2 run and putting Providence back on top 19-18.
• The Friars extended their lead to 24-20 with 2:49 on the clock, but Tayanna Jones drained a long-range three on Georgetown's next possession (24-23).
• The score would remain unchanged heading into the locker room at the half.
• Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) paced the Friars in the first half with 10 points and five rebounds.
• The Friars shot 37-percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes (10-27), while the Hoyas checked in at 29-percent (10-34).
• Providence hit 4-10 attempts from three-point territory (.400).
THIRD QUARTER:
• Providence forced a Georgetown timeout with 6:08 left in the third after gaining a 32-25 advantage behind the strength of an 8-2 run.
• Georgetown used a 7-0 run during a span of 1:52 to tie the game 32-32 with 4:00 minutes on the clock.
• Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) stopped the run with a pair of free throws at 3:33 to provide Providence with a 34-32 lead.
• The Friars took a 37-36 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Georgetown scored nine-straight points to gain a 45-37 lead, forcing a Providence timeout with 7:40 remaining in regulation.
• The Hoyas took advantage of four Friar turnovers during their run.
• The Hoyas had not led since the 6:16 mark of the second quarter (20-19).
• Baskerville got Providence's first bucket of the quarter at 6:16 to make it a 45-39 game.
• The Hoyas got out to a nine-point lead (52-43).
• Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a three with 59-seconds left to get Providence within five (55-50).
• The Hoyas hit 6-8 from the free throw line to claim an 11-point lead with 24-seconds remaining and held on for the win.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Providence College has not defeated Georgetown at McDonough Arena since Feb. 8, 1996.
• Baskerville paced the Friars with her third double-double of the season on 15 points and 10 boards. She also added two assists and two steals.
• Baskerville shot 7-9 from the field, but struggled from the free-throw line on the day (1-7).
• As a team, Providence shot 3-11 from the foul line (.273).
• Webb contributed 12 points and two assists, and Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) tallied nine points.
• Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) dished a game-high five assists and added six rebounds.
• The Friars had 18 assists on 20 made field goal in the game.

• The Friars return to Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. for their first home game since Nov. 24, when they host BIG EAST preseason favorite and 16th-ranked DePaul on Friday, Jan. 3.
