PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A 12-0 third quarter run powered the No. 16/17 DePaul Blue Demons past Providence, 80-67, on Friday, January 3 at Alumni Hall. The Blue Demons remain perfect in the BIG EAST with a 3-0 record (12-2 overall). The Friars dropped to 0-3 in the BIG EAST and 9-6 overall. The Friars were led by
Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) with 20 points and seven rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER:
• The Friars and Blue Demons were deadlocked at 11-11 at the first media timeout (4:19).
• Baskerville scored each of the Friars' first six points, followed by five-straight points from
Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.).
• The teams traded baskets the remainder of the quarter, as DePaul took a 20-19 lead into the break.
• The Friars shot 56-percent (9-17) from the floor in the opening quarter.
SECOND QUARTER:
•
Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) opened the second quarter with an easy bucket as she got behind the defense to give Providence a 21-20 lead.
• DePaul answered with seven-straight points to claim a 27-21 edge.
• At the media timeout (4:410, the teams were separated by five points (31-26). The +5 margin came at the free throw line as DePaul was 5-5 from the stripe, while the Friars had yet to attempt a free throw.
• DePaul inched out to its largest lead of the half (33-26) and took a 37-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Baskerville and Webb each tallied eight points in the first half.
• Dee Bekelja led all scorers in the half with 11 points for DePaul.
THIRD QUARTER:
• The Blue Demons scored 12-straight points to open the third quarter to take a 49-31 lead.
• Providence tallied its first points of the frame with 4:05 left on the clock via a
Sophia Widmeyer (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) three pointer.
• The Friars were looking at a 59-45 deficit heading into the final 10 minutes of action.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• Providence cut the deficit to 11 on four occasions in the fourth, and Baskerville hit 1-of-2 free throws with 3:35 left to make it a 10-point game (70-60).
• Providence remained within 10 (72-62) before the Blue Demons went on an 8-0 run to take an 80-62 lead with 1:48 left in the game.
• Widmeyer sank a three for the Friars as time expired to make the final score 80-67.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The Blue Demons extended their lead in the all-time series to 20-5.
• Baskerville had a season-high 20 points on 8-14 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds.
• Widmeyer produced season-highs in points (nine), field goals made (three), three pointers made (three) in ten minutes of play.

Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) chipped in with eight points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench.

Andrea Cooper chipped in eight points on 4-5 shooting and added three boards and one assist.
• DePaul forced 21 Providence turnovers, converting them into 22 points.
• Providence received strong production from the bench, which scored 35 points.
