Three Field Hockey Players Claim All-Region Honors

Mary O'Reilly and Corinne Kenney named NFHCA All-Northeast Region First Team; Izzy Mendez earned Second-Team honors.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three Providence College field hockey players earned 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region honors on Nov. 25. Senior Mary O'Reilly (Longmeadow, Mass.) and graduate student Corinne Kenney (Warrington, Pa.) were named to the All-Northeast Region First Team, while senior Izzy Mendez (Cedar Grove, N.J.) claimed Second-Team honors.
O'Reilly is making her first appearance on the All-Northeast Region First Team, having previously earned Second-Team honors as a junior (2018). O'Reilly had an impressive 2019 season for the Friars in the midfield, establishing career highs in points (16), goals (five) and assists (six). Four of her five goals were game winners. She earned All-BIG EAST First Team accolades at the conclusion of the 2019 season and claimed All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors in 2018. During her career, she played 75 games with 71 appearances in the starting line-up. O'Reilly totaled 38 career points on 12 goals and 14 assists. She recently competed in the Victory Sports Tours / NFHCA Division I Senior Game on Nov. 22 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Kenney made her second-straight appearance on the All-Northeast Region First Team (2018, 2019). She is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection and was featured on the First Team for a second-consecutive season (2018, 2019). She previously was recognized on the Second Team in 2017. Kenney was fixture in the Friars' defensive unit throughout her career, having started all 75 games she appeared in (2015-19). She missed the 2016 campaign with an injury and returned for her final year of eligibility as a graduate student in 2019. In 19 games this year, she has tallied three points on three assists. For her career, she registered 13 points on two goals and nine assists. Kenney is the 12th player in program history to earn All-BIG EAST First-Team honors in multiple seasons.
Mendez earned All-Northeast Region accolades for the first time in her career with the Friars. She is a two-time All-BIG EAST Second-Team pick (2018, 2019) and led the Friars in scoring with 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Each of her offensive totals marked single-season career highs. Mendez became the first player to score 20+ points in a season since Adrienne Houle '17 tallied 21 points during the 2016 campaign. She played 67 career games with the Friars and has cracked the starting line-up 46 times. Mendez finished her career with 46 points on 21 goals and four assists. She ranks 33rd all-time in career points at Providence and 26th in goals.
Providence College finished the season with a 12-7 overall record, including a 4-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference (fourth). The Friars earned a berth in the BIG EAST Conference Championship for the fourth-straight season, where they fell to eventual league champion and third-ranked Connecticut, 2-0, in the semifinals.
