PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to the No. 9 Marquette Golden Eagles in straight sets (25-9, 28-26, 25-17) in the regular season finale on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Alumni Hall. Providence concludes the season 6-25 overall, 1-17 in BIG EAST play. The Golden Eagles claim the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST tournament next week with a conference record of 16-2 and an overall record of 26-4.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette opened the set with an 8-3 advantage. The Golden Eagles kept the lead throughout and won the set, 25-9.
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) led the Friar offense with four kills on 12 total attacks.
Brielle Mullally (Garden Grove, Calif.) had three assists.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded a team-high six digs.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence jumped out to an 8-4 lead to begin the set. The Golden Eagles came back to tie the set at 14. The remainder of the set went back and forth with Marquette pulling out a 28-26 victory.
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) paced the offense with four kills on six total attacks.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) led the Friars with six assists.
Root had a team-high five digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Marquette led wire-to-wire and won the set, 25-17.
Root held a set-high four kills on eight total attacks.
Barber had three assists.
Taylor registered a set-high eight digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Root led the Friar offense with nine kills on 24 total attacks.
Barber had a team-high 10 assists to go with three digs.
Taylor recorded a match-high 18 digs.
As a team, Providence tallied 26 kills on 101 total attacks, 41 digs and 24 assists.
