Women's Basketball Improves To 3-0 With 76-60 Victory Over Boston College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a wire-to-wire victory in its home opener against Boston College on Nov. 17 to claim a 76-60 victory. The Eagles dropped to 2-2 on the season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) got the scoring started for the Friars with a face-up baseline jump shot to start the quarter.
 
• Providence had the hot hand from the tip, converting on six of its first seven shots. The Friars opened up a 14-4 lead in the first four minutes forcing a Boston College timeout.
 
• The Friars extended the lead to as many as 15 (21-6), but the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to cut it back to single digits, 21-12.
 
• After the opening 10 minutes of play the Friars led 23-12. Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) led all scorers with eight points, shooting a perfect 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from three-point range. Providence shot 10-16 from the field overall (.625) and forced five turnovers.
 
 
SECOND QUARTER:
• Five different Friars scored the opening six buckets inside the first five minutes of action.
 
• In the final 2:30 of the quarter Providence went on a 9-0 run, giving the Friars their largest lead of the half (18). Providence entered the break with a 49-31 lead. Providence shot 9-13 from the field including 7-8 from the charity stripe.
 
Andrea Cooper (Edmond, Okla.) made significant contributions off the, scoring all eight of her points on the day.
 
• Providence forced 10 turnovers, turning it into 16 points in the first half.
 
• Geary locked down the paint with tying her career-high three blocks in the first half.
 
• The Friars shot 19-29 (.655) from the field, 4-7 (.571) from three and 7-8 (.875) from the line in the first half.
 
 
THIRD QUARTER:
 
• A Spiwak three-pointer from the right wing pushed the Friars to 58-37.
 
• Webb swished back-to-back three pointers, giving the Friars a 25-point cushion heading into the media timeout.
 
• Boston College closed the quarter on a 7-0 run. Providence led after three quarters, 66-49.
 
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
 
• Webb's turn-around hook on the left block broke an over three-minute scoring drought for the Friars. Webb scored five of the Friars' first eight points in the fourth.
 
Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Geary scored the other Friar buckets.
 
• Boston College outscored the Friars, 11-10, on the quarter.
 
 
GAME NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
 
• Providence's largest claimed its largest lead of the game (27) with 3:29 remaining in the third quarter (66-39).
 
• Three Friars cracked double-digit scoring. Webb led Providence with 18 points, Spiwak knotted a career-high with 17 and Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) chipped in with 11.
 
• Scott and Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) tied a game-high eight rebounds a piece.
 
• Providence shot 54.7-percent (29-53) from the field, 50-percent (7-14) from three-point land and 84.6-percent (11-13) from the line.
 
•Webb led the defensive effort with four steals, which matched her career high.
 
•The Friars have won three-straight games against Boston College and improved to 33-23 all-time vs. the Eagles.
 

WHAT'S NEXT:
The Friars will travel to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Monmouth in non-conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. Providence will return to Alumni Hall on Sunday, Nov. 24 to host UMass Lowell at 6:00 p.m. It will mark the final home game at Alumni for the until Jan. 3 against BIG EAST foe DePaul. The Friars will play nine-straight road games, including the remaining 20 minutes in their previously suspended game against Yale.
