Spiwak Nets Career-High 22 Points In 68-52 Win At Monmouth

Friars improved to 4-0 on the season, including a 3-0 mark on the road.
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.– The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Monmouth, 68-52, on Nov. 20 at OceanFirst Bank Center in West Long Branch, N.J. The Friars improved to 4-0 on the year, including a 3-0 mark on the road. Monmouth dropped to 0-2 overall.
FIRST QUARTER:
• The Friars use an 9-0 run to take a 12-7 lead with 5:01 on the clock.
• Monmouth halted the run with a hook shot in the lane at 4:42.
• After a scoring drought of more than two minutes, Providence got back on the board with a three-point bucket from Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.) at 2:29 to make the score 15-9.
• Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.) followed with a traditional three-point play with 1:38 remaining (18-9).
• The Friars led 18-11 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
SECOND QUARTER:
• The Friars led by 23-11, but a 5-0 spurt by Monmouth cut the deficit to seven with 5:13 on the clock.
• Providence used a 9-1 run to push its lead to 15 (34-19) with 1:51 to play in the second frame.
• The teams traded baskets on their next possessions and the Hawks finished the quarter with a pair of free throws, as Providence went to the locker room at halftime with a 36-23 lead.
• Kyra Spiwak (Arlington Heights, Ill.) paced the Friars with 11 points.
• The Friars recorded nine assists on 11 made field goals in the first half, with Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) dishing a career-best six assists in just 12 minutes of action.
THIRD QUARTER:
• A 6-0 spurt by Monmouth cut the Friars lead to single digits (38-29) at the 7:08 mark.
• Spiwak ended a Providence scoring drought that spanned nearly three minutes, with a short jumper inside the paint and followed with a baseline three. The 5-0 run gave Providence a 43-29 lead at the media timeout (4:59).
• Spiwak added another three from the baseline out of the break to give her a game-high 19 points on the night and a new career high for the third time this season.
FOURTH QUARTER:
• The Friars earned their largest lead of the night (22) with 7:51 remaining in the game as Webb drilled a three (59-37).
• Monmouth cut the lead to 15 at 4:36, but the Friars bounced back out to a 21-point lead with six-straight points.
• Spiwak eclipsed 20 points for the first time in her career as she knocked down her career-best fifth three-pointer with 2:28 left on the clock.
GAME NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• Spiwak finished the night with a career-high 22 points on 7-11 shooting from the field, including a 5-7 performance from three-point territory.
• Her five threes against the Hawks marked a single-game career-high.
• Olivia Orlando (Georgetown, Mass.) had a solid outing with a season-high eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals. She also dished four assists, while playing 30 minutes.
• Webb hit double figures with 11 points and added three rebounds.
• Scott completed the game with a career-best eight assists and also recorded four points, five rebounds and a season-high three steals.
• Geary matched her career high in rebounding with seven boards and chipped in eight points, one assist and one steal.
• Providence matched its season-best with nine three-pointers in the game and also shot 45-percent or better from deep for the third time in four games.

The Friars return to Alumni Hall on Sunday, Nov. 24 to host UMass Lowell in non-conference action. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
