PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. and Chicago, Ill. to face No. 10 Marquette and DePaul this weekend. The Friars will take on the No. 10 Golden Eagles on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET and the Blue Demons on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Friars enter the weekend looking to claim their first BIG EAST win of the season. Providence stands at 5-12 overall and 0-4 in the BIG EAST after dropping both matches to Seton Hall and St. John's the past weekend.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) ranks second in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.354). Alderson leads the Friars in total blocks (44) and is fourth in kills per set (2.02). Alderson recorded a season-high 20 kills last weekend against Seton Hall.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) leads the Friars and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.71). Barber has recorded a team-high 187 digs and averaging 2.88 digs per set. She needs 39 assists to move into sixth-place on the Friars all-time career assists list. Barber recorded her first triple-double of the season against Seton Hall with 13 kills, 31 assists and 10 digs.
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) tallies a team-high 3.16 kills per set and 3.67 points per set. Leitman ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in those categories, respectively. Leitman registered her fourth double-double of the season against Seton Hall with 14 kills and 10 digs.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES: Marquette enters the weekend ranked No. 10 after posting a 14-2 overall record (4-0 in the BIG EAST). Last weekend, in BIG EAST play, the Golden Eagles defeated St. John's and Xavier, each in four sets. The Golden Eagles are 2-2 against ranked opponents after defeating No. 9 BYU, No. 4 Wisconsin and falling to No. 17 Baylor and No. 19 Illinois. Marquette defeated Providence in both meetings last season in straight sets. Marquette was ranked second in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll and is riding an eight-game winning streak.
Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year Allie Barber leads the BIG EAST in kills per set (4.65) and points per set (4.89). The unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection has claimed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, twice (Sept. 17, Oct.1), and BIG EAST Honor Roll (Sept. 24) accolades this season.
Hope Werch ranks second in kills (144) and digs (157) for the Golden Eagles. She ranks third in the BIG EAST in service aces (0.42). Werch has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll twice (Sept. 10, Oct.1). Werch was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Martha Konovodoff leads Marquette in digs (274) and ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in digs per set (4.57). Konovodoff has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll (Sept. 24) this season.
Lauren Speckman ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in assists per set (7.00) and leads the Golden Eagles in assists (385).
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMON: DePaul stands at 9-7 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demon fell to Butler in five sets in their most recent match. Providence defeated DePaul in both matches last season, in three and five sets. DePaul was selected seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Brittany Maxwell leads the Blue Demon in kills (249) and ranks third in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.83). Maxwell ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in points per set (4.30). Maxwell was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Sept. 3.
Isabelle Banez leads the Blue Demons in digs (338) and leads the BIG EAST in digs per set (5.28). Banez claimed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row (Sept. 3, Sept. 10, Sept. 17) and the MVP award at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational.
Katie Dolan and Natalie Hayward rank ninth (5.43) and tenth (5.38), respectively in the BIG EAST in assists per set.
WHAT'S NEXT: Providence returns home to take on Xavier and Butler. The Friars take on the Musketeers on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and the Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m. The matchup against Xavier will be featured on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) and the annual Pink Out Game will be against Butler.
