PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's soccer team will travel to South Orange, N.J. to match up with Seton Hall University on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 6:00 p.m. The Friars are currently tied for fifth place in the BIG EAST with Marquette University. The top six teams at the conclusion of conference play will qualify for the BIG EAST tournament. Thursday's game will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network.

Series History Against Seton Hall… Thursday's match will break an 8-8-0 all-time series record between these two programs. Providence is currently on a five-game winning streak against the Pirates, allowing just one goal over the past five matches.
Scouting the Pirates… Seton Hall sits in last place of the BIG EAST with a 0-8 conference mark and 1-13-1 overall record. The Pirates' lone win came against Lafayette on Aug. 29, defeating the Leopards by a score of 1-0.
Laura Hooper leads the team in points (four) and goals (two). She has posted a team-high 29 shots on the season. Harpa Johannsdottir has started 13 of the team's 15 matches in net, she has allowed 27 goals for a 2.07 goals against average. Johannsdottir has faced 217 shots throughout the season.
Scouting the Friars… The Friars find themselves tied for fifth place in the BIG EAST with Marquette.
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) leads the team in goals (seven) and points (14) while
Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) and
Olivia Lucia (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) are tied for the team lead in assists (two). McNulty has had an impressive junior campaign after being named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Four of her seven goals have proved to be game-winners, ranking her 28
th in the country in game-winning goals and first in the conference.
Shelby Hogan (Franklin, Mass.) has found continued success in net after tying the single-season record for shutouts last season (10). She boasts a 0.90 goals against average and is ranked 29
st nationally with a 0.853 save percentage. Hogan was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, Oct. 21 for the second time this season, after tallying a season-high 12 saves on 25 shots faced in Providence's 2-1 win over Creighton. She leads the BIG EAST in save percentage (.853), saves (93) and saves per game (5.47).
BIG EAST Road Win… Providence earned an important BIG EAST result on the road at Creighton on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a 2-1 comeback victory. The Bluejays took the lead in the first half before
Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) notched two goals within five minutes for her first multi-goal performance of the season and fourth of her career. McNulty's goals came in the 50
th and 55
th minutes.
Jana Braun (Frittlingen, Germany) earned her first point of the season, assisting on McNulty's first goal.
Four-Game Win Streak… Providence's season-best four-game win streak came to an end on Sunday, Oct. 6 when the team hosted No. 11 Georgetown at The Chap. The Friars allowed the first goal of the match in the 28
th minute after trading opportunities. The team failed to cut into the lead as No. 11 Georgetown prevailed, 4-0. Providence and Georgetown were the last remaining unbeaten BIG EAST teams heading into the matchup, with both holding a 2-0 conference record. This marked the first game this season that the Friars allowed more than one goal in a match.
Providence's second BIG EAST win came in the 106
th minute against Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. when sophomore
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) scored her third golden goal of the year and sixth career goal. The goal tied her for the team-lead in goals (five) with
Hannah McNulty.
Kelsie Cummings (Millbury, Mass.) scored her first career goal in the 45
th minute on a feed from
Alessandra Arace (Pittsfield, Mass.) to gain a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles found the equalizer in the 79
th minute before Providence prevailed in double overtime with the victory.
Shelby Hogan recorded five saves on the night to improve to 7-3-1. She now holds a 0.88 goals against average this season with a 0.861 save percentage.
Offensive Breakout… Providence scored a season-best four goals against St. John's in the team's shutout victory on Sept. 28 at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium to open its BIG EAST schedule. The game marked the first time this season that the margin of victory/defeat was larger than one goal. The Friars improved to 5-1 this season on home turf, and 13-2 over their last 15 games at The Chap.
Overtime Heroes… Seven of the Friars' 16 matches have been decided in overtime this season and they have posted a 5-0-2 mark. Providence's most recent overtime match came against DePaul on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Chapey Field at Anderson when the Friars and Blue Demons played to a scoreless draw.
One-Goal Affairs… Fourteen of the Friars' 17 matches this season have been decided by one goal or less, with two draws on their record. Providence's most recent match resulted in a 1-0 setback to Villanova University on Oct. 29.
Up Next… Providence will await its fate for the BIG EAST Tournament pending the results of Thursday's games.
